Dancing with the Stars’ movie week couldn't have been better timed, coinciding with the buzz of Oscar nominations just around the corner. As the glittering event unfolded, 11 couples hit the dancefloor, grooving to iconic film tracks like Wicked, The Flinstones, Superman, and The Commitments. Yet, amidst the dazzling performances, singer Brian Kennedy found himself stepping away from the spotlight.
Following last week's exit of comedian Michael Fry and partner Kylee Vincent, Brian Kennedy became the second celebrity to hang up his dancing shoes. His Paso Doble to the Michael Ball version of The Phantom of the Opera scored him 15 points – not quite enough to keep him in the game.
Despite the outcome, the 59-year-old Northern Irish singer was nothing but gracious. "I’m definitely more proud than disappointed – we put the work in, and this is the way these shows go," Kennedy remarked, reflecting a positive outlook on his departure.
“I know how to lose, I’ve been in the Eurovision!” he quipped, recalling his 10th place finish in the 2006 Eurovision with his heartfelt track, Every Song Is a Cry for Love.
Kennedy described the show as a "great learning curve," pushing him to embrace new challenges even in his late fifties. Aware of the health hurdles he faced, Kennedy needed clearance from his heart surgeon before joining the show, highlighting his commitment and determination.
Kennedy didn't miss the chance to shower praise on his dance partner, James Cutler, for his unwavering patience and support. He also lauded the production's top-notch quality, capable of "competing with any other production" of the show.
As he prepares for his next role as Oscar Wilde in a London show opening March 29, Kennedy's journey in the dance world leaves him with newfound respect for the intricate and cultural significance of dance.
In other news from the dance floor, Rose of Tralee's Katelyn Cummins dazzled with a leading score of 35, closely followed by Apprentice star Jordan Dargan with 34. Meanwhile, Traitors star Paudie Moloney shared the bottom two spot with Kennedy, marking another night of unexpected twists and turns in the competition.
