Bill Maher, the outspoken host of Real Time With Bill Maher, has once again found himself at the center of a fan frenzy. On the October 6 episode of his Club Random podcast, Maher sat down with the vibrant rockstar Yungblud to discuss a range of topics, including the ever-popular Taylor Swift. While Yungblud gushed about his admiration for Swift, calling her music "weirdly lovable," Maher confessed his indifference to her tunes, despite acknowledging her brilliance as a businesswoman.
“I just saw her doing the Travis Kelce podcast,” Maher mentioned. "She seemed genuine, funny, cool to hang out with, which I never thought she wasn’t. I just don’t get the music, and I never will.”
Yungblud, unfazed by Maher's admission, shared a nostalgic memory of listening to Swift's album Red with his sisters, expressing his fondness for the pop superstar.
Yungblud didn't shy away from defending Swift, recounting how her music takes him back to cherished childhood moments. "Anytime that comes on, it takes me back to a time, and I was in my mom’s car with my sisters," he said, highlighting the personal connection many fans feel with her songs. He even addressed the typical pub chatter dismissing Swift, boldly declaring his appreciation for her work.
Maher, however, clarified his stance, saying, "I don’t dislike Taylor. I like Taylor Swift. I’m just saying … I’m making a bigger point because she’s so big. Not everybody has to like everything.”
The podcast episode quickly became a hot topic on social media, with fans taking to Instagram to voice their opinions. Some criticized Maher's comments, labeling him as "negative and grumpy," while others suggested he give Swift's "All Too Well" a listen. Meanwhile, a few fans supported Maher's viewpoint, with one remarking, "Taylor Swift sucks lolol," and another expressing love for Swift as a person, though not connecting with her music.
Maher's previous comments on Swift were also revisited, where he nostalgically mentioned preferring her country roots and even made a bold prediction about her relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce. Despite Maher's skepticism, Swift and Kelce announced their engagement on Instagram on August 26, nearly breaking the internet.
