"Man vs. Wild" star Bear Grylls is no stranger to danger and adventure, but he recently opened up about his toughest challenge yet – writing a book about Jesus. In an interview with Fox News, Grylls shared that penning "The Greatest Story Ever Told: An Eyewitness Account" was harder than climbing Mount Everest or braving a frozen sea.
"It's been the hardest thing I've ever done, but also the best thing I have ever done," Grylls told "My View with Lara Trump." "My faith has always been like a quiet, empowering presence through so many adventures."
The book, released in June, presents the life of Jesus as a thrilling narrative filled with courage, friendship, and love – a departure from the sanitized versions Grylls grew up with.
Grylls, who has hosted numerous survival shows since 2006, including the popular "Man vs. Wild," was approached by the Discovery Channel following his successful ascent of Everest. This climb was not without tragedy, as it claimed the lives of fellow climbers, leaving a lasting impact on Grylls.
Reflecting on his career, Grylls shared that the response to his book has been overwhelming, surpassing any feedback he received from his television work. "I think I've had more response from this book than anything else I've ever done," he admitted.
Beyond his ventures in writing and television, Grylls emphasized the importance of the great outdoors as a grounding force in his life. "For me, the outdoors has always been such a beautiful, healing, grounding place," he said, expressing concern that modern life has distanced people from nature.
Advising others to moderate their screen time, Grylls encouraged embracing the outdoors, noting that adventures don't need to involve scaling the highest peaks. "It doesn’t have to be the highest mountain in the world," he said. "It's how you live, how you approach risk, relationships, family, business and everything."
Despite the challenges and risks, Grylls finds contentment in his adventurous lifestyle, admitting, "I've burned so many bridges in my life, I have no other option apart from doing what I do – and I kind of like that."
