Anya Taylor-Joy is cooking up something special. While promoting "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie," she teamed up with Jack Black to tease audiences with a tantalizing idea: "Nacho Libre 2." The original film, which features Black as a friar moonlighting as a luchador, could be getting a sequel – and Taylor-Joy wants to do it in Spanish!
During an interview on the popular show "Despierta America," the duo dived into Taylor-Joy's Latin roots and their latest project, where she stars as Princess Peach. Amidst the conversation, Taylor-Joy floated the idea of taking on "Nacho Libre 2" with Black. "You could be my daughter," Black chimed in, clearly thrilled by the prospect.
"Hell yeah. I would love that," responded Taylor-Joy, her enthusiasm unmistakable.
The conversation took a playful turn as they speculated on how Black's character Bowser from the Super Mario movies might behave if he were Latino. "He'd be more romantic. A little more spicy. Un poquito más caliente," Taylor-Joy mused. Black couldn't help but bring it back to "Nacho Libre," suggesting Bowser would make a great luchador. "You just want to fight. You just want to put on costumes and fight," Taylor-Joy laughed.
Taylor-Joy's cultural background is as vibrant as her film ideas. Born in Miami to English parents and raised in Argentina, she has always embraced her Latin roots. "When I was younger, I didn’t fit in anywhere. I was too English to be Argentine, too Argentine to be English, too American to be anything," she shared with The Standard.
In her chat with "Despierta America," she shared a relatable story about her large family. "Of the family that I know, well there's like 27 of us," she recounted with a smile. "So when my mom is like, 'This is your cousin, your aunt, etc.,' I'm like 'Ok, great,'" she added with a shrug, capturing the essence of many Latin families' expansive networks.
