Angelina Jolie is once again making headlines, and this time it's not just about her upcoming movie, "Couture." The Hollywood icon has revealed that her children have played a pivotal role in restoring her fighting spirit. After a tumultuous period involving her highly publicized divorce from Brad Pitt and personal health challenges, Jolie is finding her way back to herself.
In a candid chat with Variety, Jolie expressed, “I think my fighting spirit is finally back. I lost it for a bit. I got kind of taken down a little bit and it’s coming back in large part thanks to my children, who are now older, and encouraging it.” Her six children, whom she shares with Pitt, have been her rock during these trying times.
“My kids are almost all 18, so now they want to see me traveling the world, they want me to get out and do things,” she added. “They know me more than anybody, and they still like me, which says a lot.”
Jolie's new film, "Couture," is set to hit theaters on June 26, and it seems art is imitating life. In the film, she plays Maxine, a single mother and horror filmmaker whose life takes a dramatic turn following a breast cancer diagnosis. This storyline mirrors some of Jolie's own experiences with health issues.
Back in 2013, she took the bold step of undergoing a preventive double mastectomy after discovering she carried the BRCA1 gene mutation, which significantly increases cancer risk. Her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, tragically passed away at the age of 56 due to ovarian and breast cancer, a fate Jolie is determined to avoid for herself and her family.
Jolie's journey is not just about her own survival; it's also about preparing her children for the future. She reflected, “I think having lost my mom young and never met my grandmother, I have never lived feeling like I’m going to have a long life. I raise my kids almost preparing them for my absence and not as much preparing to be a grandmother.” This poignant statement highlights her ongoing battle with the reality of her health risks and the legacy she wishes to leave behind.
As Jolie continues to navigate the challenges of life, her story remains an inspiring testament to resilience and the unyielding power of family support.
