Meet the Stiller Siblings

Ben Stiller comes from a legacy of comedic royalty, but his 2025 documentary, 'Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost,' offers an intimate look into his relationship with his sister, Amy Stiller. Born to the iconic duo Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara in 1961 and 1965, respectively, Amy and Ben were immersed in the world of showbiz from a young age. While Ben skyrocketed to fame in the late '80s and '90s, Amy faced a more turbulent path trying to find her place in the entertainment industry.

“I had a lot of opportunities, and I just didn’t know what to do with them,” Amy candidly shared in the documentary. “I didn’t know who I was, and I look back on it and it was so painful.”

Despite the struggles, Amy has accumulated over 50 credits in show business, proving her resilience and determination.

The Stiller Family Legacy

Amy, the eldest of the Stiller siblings, grew up in New York City under the watchful eyes of her famous parents. Jerry and Anne gained stardom as a comedic duo before pursuing individual projects – Jerry with roles in 'Seinfeld' and 'The King of Queens,' and Anne in 'Rhoda' and 'The Other Woman.' The Stiller kids were no strangers to the spotlight, making their TV debut in 1974, playing violins on a talk show with their parents.

Ben Stiller recalls, “They just wanted to fill that segment, choose a skit. They thought that it would be cute and I never felt they were trying to exploit us. They were just trying to be entertaining.”

Overcoming Challenges

While Ben’s career took off with 'There’s Something About Mary,' Amy found herself working as a waitress, grappling with her dreams of acting. The eldest Stiller sibling faced an uphill battle, feeling the weight of expectations and her father Jerry's overprotectiveness.

“Dad had an overprotectiveness that would stifle me, and I felt, like, paralyzed,” Amy reflected. She also noted the difficulty of living up to the legacy of her parents, especially as a woman in the industry.

Amy's Career Breakthrough

Despite the hurdles, Amy Stiller has made a name for herself. With roles in 'Highway to Hell,' 'Law & Order,' 'Friends,' and 'Freaks and Geeks,' she’s carved out her own niche in Hollywood. Amy has even appeared in several of Ben's projects, including 'Meet the Parents,' 'Zoolander,' and 'Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.' More recently, she appeared in Ben’s acclaimed series 'Severance' and the 2025 short film 'Fire at Will.'

Amy is also known for her one-woman show, 'Just Trust,' which delves into her unique life experiences. Beyond her acting career, she cherishes her role as an aunt to Ben's children, Ella and Quinlin.

The Stiller & Meara Documentary

For those eager to dive deeper into the Stiller family's story, 'Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost' is now showing in select theaters and will be available for streaming on Apple TV+ starting October 24.
