Comedian Alan Carr, known for his quick wit and charming personality, found himself in a bit of a pickle after accidentally revealing his Celebrity Traitors win. Just 12 hours after filming the final episode, the news slipped out during the filming of Channel 4’s gameshow, Secret Genius. Carr, who was a Traitor on the celebrity edition of the hit series, managed to outsmart Faithfuls like historian David Olusoga and actor Nick Mohammed in a nail-biting finale.
“I felt so stupid. When I did The Traitors, I looked at my work diary and my agent had actually put in work after the first week, and I said ‘oh no, I’m doing The Traitors’. He said, ‘Alan, you’ll be out first week with your motor mouth, you aren’t going to last’. Then it kept going on and on.”
Speaking on BBC Radio 2’s The Scott Mills Breakfast Show, Carr shared the amusing tale of how a casual joke from a cameraman led to his big reveal. "The cameraman goes ‘congratulations’, and I go ‘how did you know I won?’ He said ‘I didn’t, I was just joking, just teasing’. So I told them within 12 hours that I had won The Traitors.”
After the slip-up, Carr tried to play it off, jokingly saying, "I went, ‘haha, got you!’ – I had to backtrack, because you can’t tell anything. But I did well, and I didn’t want to spoil it." Despite his best efforts, the cat was already out of the bag. The Celebrity Traitors, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, became a cultural phenomenon, with Carr's cunning moves and strategic play captivating audiences.
Since the show aired, Carr has noticed a spike in his public recognition. During a holiday in Mexico, he recounted an amusing encounter: “I’m never spotted over there, and I was on the way to the pool and I heard this woman from the balcony, ‘I see you, Traitor. Don’t you hide your face from me. Who are you going to murder today?’” The comedian laughed about how people unfamiliar with the show might mistake him for a real villain.
The Traitors, a thrilling reality game show, pits contestants – mostly known as Faithfuls – against each other as they attempt to sniff out the traitors among them. Carr, alongside his fellow traitors, managed to "murder" several Faithfuls, including Paloma Faith, Celia Imrie, Lucy Beaumont, and Tom Daley, all while staying under the radar.
The full story of Carr's antics and his eventual win can be heard on Friday’s edition of The Scott Mills Breakfast Show. One thing's for sure: Alan Carr's unexpected confession has only added to the charm and intrigue of an already gripping tale.
